When considering a luxury home remodeling project remember the 10% rule.  This rule applies to just about every house type regardless of the price point.  Save 10% of the cost of the house as a reserve to complete your remodeling, upgrades, design and furniture jobs.  Using this rule of thumb will give you much needed room that most homeowners do not consider in the price of their new home as a mortgage is only the beginning of the costs associated with a new home.
